The Importance of Warm-Up and Cool-Down
Every exercise training regimen must therefore incorporate some warm-up and cool-down effects to enhance the body’s preparedness to undertake and recuperate from exercise. Not only these phases are useful in avoiding incidents but also in increasing the general efficiency. Warm-up exercises are useful as they enhance the circulation of blood in the muscles and hence minimize instances where one gets an injury during an exercise session or make the muscles more flexible. They also mobilize the tendons, ligaments, and joints for the approaching activity.
Activities used in warming up increase the amount of blood in the muscles, the pulse rate, and the depth of breathing. These physiological changes even increase the elasticity of muscles, quickness of response to stimuli, and coordination hence improving performance. Different types of stretching known as dynamic stretching, when the warm-up exercises are performed, the joint becomes more flexible, and muscle imbalance reduces the risk of injury.
Stretching exercises are also essential because they assist the body to return to normalcy and or rest after the exercises. If the heart rate is slowly brought down, blood that has gathered in the muscles to supply them will not drain to the point that it makes the person dizzy or even faint. Coming down exercises also help in the elimination of metabolic waste products from the muscles and it helps the body muscles recover from the micro-damage brought about by exercising and thus helps to reduce later on muscle soreness.
Thus, it is noteworthy that warm-up and cool-down also involve certain psychological advantages. Warm-up also gives an individual a chance to psychologically prepare for the envisaged performance by fixing his/her mind on the goals. In contrast, cooldown is an exercise, that affords a time in which one can think about it, inventory what has been done, and blueprint for future episodes.
